I just love air fryer recipes, and I am sure many of you’ll agree with me on this! I use my air fryer almost every day, I use it for a lot of quick recipes like roasted cauliflower, buffalo cauliflower, roasted tofu, and even for reheating the leftover pizza. But when it comes to the easy and quick snack though, this air fryer roasted chickpeas recipe hits the spot and this is one of my favorite air fryer snack recipes.

The best thing about roasting chickpeas in an air fryer is that it is fully customizable, you can easily add or subtract any ingredients of your choice. It’s up to you!! These are very healthy, low in fat, high in fiber, and they are tasty and much less expensive than other readymade snacks you can purchase.

Generally, air fryer recipes are very easy to make as they require minimal ingredients to get a perfect and delicious result. Likewise, this air fryer roasted chickpeas recipe call for main 4 ingredients:

  • Chickpeas: You can use canned chickpeas or you can cook your chickpeas from scratch. 
  • Extra virgin olive oil: Oil helps to stick the seasoning with the chickpeas and helps to make them extra crispy and crunchy. 
  •  Salt and Black pepper
  • Seasoning mix of your choice: I have used my favorite homemade Fajita seasoning mix. But feel free to mix any of your preferred mixes. See below for more easy seasoning options.

How to make Roasted air fryer Chickpeas

These air fryer-roasted chickpeas get ready in very little time ( less than 15 minutes) and can be seasoned with limitless seasoning options. This recipe requires minimal preparation, all you have to do is: 

  • Cook and dry the chickpeas: Make sure to properly drain the cooked or canned chickpeas and pat them dry with a paper or kitchen towel. 
  • Seasoning: Toss the chickpeas with extra virgin olive oil, and homemade fajita seasoning, or mix your own choice of seasoning.
  •  Gently spread the tossed chickpeas in a single layer in your air fryer basket.
  • Cook: Cook the chickpeas at  390°F or 200°C and cook for about 10 to 12 minutes or until the chickpeas get slightly golden brown and crunchy. 

How to make oven-roasted chickpeas

  • Prep your chickpeas: Drain and spread the chickpeas in a kitchen towel and gently pat them to dry. 
  • Season the chickpeas: Transfer the dried chickpeas into a parchment lining baking tray and toss them with extra virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper. 
  • Roast: Roast the chickpeas for 20 minutes or until light brown and crispy. 
  • Now remove the chickpeas and while they are warm, toss them with your preferred seasoning mix or try this homemade fajita mix.

Finally, let’s talk about the best about this air fryer recipe where you can really get creative and make your own seasoning mix! With this air fryer roasted chickpeas recipe, you can make your own seasoning mix or refer to these 3 amazing options: 

  1. BBQ chickpeas: 1 canned chickpea, Brown sugar – 2 tbsp, Sea Salt- ¼ tbsp, Garlic powder- ¼ tbsp, Black pepper- ¼ tbsp, Olive oil- 1 tbsp, Chili flakes- ¼ tbsp, Onion powder- ¼ tbsp
  2. Chili lime chickpeas: 1 canned chickpea, Cumin powder- ½ tbsp, Sea salt- ½  tsp, Garlic powder- ¼ tbsp, Lime juice- 1 tbsp, Chili powder- 1 tbsp 
  3. Dorito:  1 canned chickpea, 2 Tbsp nutritional yeast, ¼ tsp garlic powder, ¼ tsp onion powder, ¼ tsp cumin, ¼ tsp smoked  paprika, ¼ tsp chili powder, ¼ tsp sea salt

Ingredients

  • 1 14 -19 Oz Can chickpeas
  • 2 tbsp Extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ tbsp Salt
  • ¼ tbsp Black pepper
  • ¼ tbsp Garlic powder
  • ¼ tbsp Onion powder
  • ½ tbsp Paprika see notes for more seasoning options

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer at 390°F / 200°C.
  • Drain and dry the chickpeas. Toss the dried chickpeas with extra virgin olive oil and with a pinch of salt.
  • Transfer all the chickpeas to the air fryer basket. Cook for about 10 to 12 minutes, make sure to shake the air fryer basket a couple of times.
  • When the chickpeas turn golden brown and crunchy, remove them from the air fryer and add the seasoning mix and toss it properly.
