Here is a list of ingredients you‘ll need to make the chai-spiced granola at home.

  • Rolled oats: for the best texture use rolled oats.
  • Nuts: I’m using a mix of almonds, walnuts, and cashews. You can use any nuts of your choice.
  • Seeds: Pumpkin, sunflower, and flax seeds are a flavorful way to give your granola a boost of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.
  • Spice mix: I love my chai with a mix of cinnamon, ground ginger cardamom, nutmeg, and allspice.
  • Flavor and sweetener: I am using maple syrup, and vanilla extract act as the binding ingredient for the dry ingredients mixture which is nuts, seeds, and oats.

How To Make Homemade Chai-spiced Granola

  1. Prep and preheat: Set your oven to 325F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Blend all the seeds and nuts. You can pulse them in a food processor until they have been chopped to a medium texture alternatively you can chop all of them with a knife.
  2. Make the Granola Mix: Take a large bowl and add rolled oats, nuts, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Stir everything together.
  3. Combine the wet ingredients: In a bowl, add melted butter, vanilla, maple syrup, and vanilla extract.
  4. Stir everything together: stir together until the granola mixture is evenly coated with the wet ingredient mixture.
  5. Divide and bake the granola mix: spread the granola mixture on top of each baking sheet in an even layer. Bake the granola for about 10 minutes at 275F (135C), then remove the sheet pans and stir the granola (Note: if you want chunky granola, do not mix the granola).
Rotate the baking sheet and place them back and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  6. Keep it aside and let it cool for about 20 to 25 minutes before storing it in a container.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to Store Chai-Spiced Granola

You can keep the homemade granola in a large and shallow air-tight glass jar. If you want to store your homemade chai spiced granola at room temp, it will stay fresh for about 2 to 3 weeks in an air-tight glass jar.

And if you want to freeze them, you can store them in a freezer-safe bag or container and it will stay fresh for about 3 months.

How to tell when granola is done baking?

You can check if your granola is ready by taking a small spoonful of the mixture out of the oven and allowing it to cool for a few seconds. If the granola is crispy and crunchy, it’s done. If it’s still soft or chewy, it needs more time in the oven.

Bake, stirring halfway through, for about 20 minutes total. It’s important not to overbake your granola, as it can quickly go from golden brown to burnt. Keep an eye on your granola during the final few minutes of baking to make sure it doesn’t burn.

How to use Granola?

Granola is a versatile ingredient that can be used in so many ways. You can just sprinkle it over yogurt, oatmeal, or smoothie bowls for adding crunch and texture. It can also be used as a topping for your fruit salads or as a snack on its own.
