Easy Teriyaki Tofu: Recipe Instructions

  • Prep Tofu (Press the tofu): Start by pressing the tofu slab in a tofu press or if you do not have a press, simply place the tofu slab on a plate covered with a kitchen towel on both sides. Place another plate or a chopping board above it and stack some heavy pot or books on the top of it. This step is very essential, as it helps to remove excess moisture and make the tofu extra firm.
  • Make the authentic teriyaki sauce (skip if using store-bought sauce): take a bowl and add all the sauce ingredients except cornstarch and water, mix them properly and pour them into a saucepan.
Cook the sauce over medium to high flame, let it simmer for a few minutes, and stir it frequently. Then make the cornstarch slurry and add to the saucepan. Mix it properly and cook until the sauce starts to thicken.
  • Bake the Tofu: Finally, transfer the tofu cubes on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer. Bake the tofu cubes at 400° For 15  minutes. Then flip the tofu and bake them for another 15 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  • Add Teriyaki sauce: Pour the teriyaki sauce into a pan and add the baked tofu. Gently mix the tofu with the sauce so that it gets evenly coated over the tofu. Turn off the flame.
