To make these air fryer mushrooms, you will need:
- Mushrooms – This recipe works well with white, button, baby bellas, and Portobello mushrooms.
- Vegetable oil – I used the regular vegetable oil
- Soy sauce – I always use reduced-sodium soy sauce or tamari sauce.
- Salt and pepper.
- Garlic Butter: Garlic can be burnt at high temperatures, so I’ve added homemade garlic butter before serving it.
How To Cook Mushroom In The Air Fryer
Clean and prep the mushrooms
Step 1: I don’t prefer washing the mushrooms just before cooking them because you’ll end up with soggy mushrooms. Just gently brush away any dirt with a clean kitsch towel. If there’s a lot of dirt, you can rinse them well and let the mushrooms drain in a colander. Make sure to pat them dry thoroughly before prepping them.
Step 2: Cut the cleaned mushrooms in half, and if they are big, cut them into quarters. Try to cut them even so everything cooks evenly.
Seasoning for the mushrooms
Step 3: Next, transfer the mushrooms to a large bowl and toss them with all the seasonings, so everything is well coated. (per the recipe below).

Step 4: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F.
Step 5: Place the mushrooms in the air fryer basket in a single layer and air fry for about 6 to 8 minutes, shaking the basket after 4 minutes or until crisp on the edges.
Tips For The Best Air-Fried Mushrooms
- Do not wash the mushrooms; instead, give them a quick rinse and gently brush off any dirt and pat them dry.
- Cut the mushrooms into equal sizes, and try to slice them into even pieces, so they are cooked evenly.
- Don’t toss with the soy sauce until you are ready to cook the mushrooms in the air fryer.
- For best results, preheat the air fryer.
- Always try to place the mushrooms in a single layer and do not over cross the basket for even cooking.
